TIME GOES BYE 2024

Group show at THE RAMP JUNE 2024

My video transcript: During my childhood my extended family would gather for reunions in a house set against a hillside in a remote and exotic countryside. From a manual to an electric wheelchair, from physical dependence to tentative experimentation, the way I navigated the house and its garden evolved. On returning to the house every few years I had to relearn the physical surroundings of doorways, obstacles, routes and openings. Through necessity I have developed a heightened sense of awareness of my surroundings and by painting this diptych from memory I draw on this mental archive.

Kneeling is a vital part of my existence. Kneeling means agility, strength, stability and movement independent of a machine. I paint on my knees and dance on my knees. During my display I will climb off my wheelchair and kneel and would like the viewers to join me. This will act as an in-between meeting ground to create a shared level of understanding.

I see the house and hillside as a time capsule. It held my changing and recovering body.
It still holds childhood memories imbued with fantasy and anticipation.
